How to become a real estate agent in Cyprus

To become an assistant real estate agent in Cyprus, you may need to meet some or all of the following requirements:

Educational requirements: You must have completed at least secondary education.

Clean Criminal Record: Obtained from Cyprus Police ( Approx cost 25 euros). For all non-EU nationals that are eligible to work in Cyprus, there will need to be a stay of 6 months minimum in Cyprus to obtain a criminal record from the Cyprus Police.


Insurance: All assistant agents will need to be insured to work as legal agents. This is normally done by the real estate agency they are employed by.

Declaration of Non-Bankruptcy: All agents will need to obtain a confirmation of non-bankruptcy issued from the department of insolvency ( http://www.meci.gov.cy/ ). Fast track method (approximately 65 euros)


Documents required for application to the real estate association: Copy of id ( Front - Back ), yellow slip if available, recent photo, Social Insurance statement for the last 2 years, high school diploma, university/college/masters degree if available.

Work Contract: Each real estate agency should have an employment contract with all agents individually. The contract should state hours and days of working, Salary, Tasks, Social Insurance-Gesu Contributions, bonus pay, and everything required for a valid contract under the rules and regulations governed by Cyprus Authorities.

Once all documents are obtained , an official application is applied for online via the association website ( https://reacyprus.azurewebsites.net/ ) where they will evaluate and register the agent in the real estate association registry (ΜΗΤΡΩΟ) if successful. The agent will also be issued an offical real estate agent identity card.  

Note: These requirements may vary depending on the specific regulations and laws in place at the time of your application, so it's best to check with the relevant authorities for up-to-date information.Good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as good organizational and time-management skills, are highly valued in the real estate industry.

If an agent is showing you a property , you are entitled to ask for the agents card that will have the license and registration number on.

*Please be aware of illegal agents that may scam , steal or give false information about properties. Also illegal agents tend to inflate pricing and prepare fake contracts. If you ever encounter a situation of an illegal agent showing you a property, please call the association directly and anonymously +357 22666377 to file a complaint. Illegal agents are taken seriously and can even result in prison.
